Want to know the best days to drink your wine? Want to be connected and informed about real, natural and biodynamic wines? The answers are obviously 'YES', but surprisingly the solution was hard to achieve than you would expect. Until now that is. With the Android OS controlling 73% of phones worldwide, it was time they got a working Bio Calendar, plus some other treats that their iOS friends don't have. From a simple idea, to a fully planned and functioning wireframe, this app is ready to be handed off to developers. What problem would you like solved with an app?.
Starting with the colour canvass, it was made to reflect the colours that are representative of Biodynamics: the earth, air, life and the skies. A gradient of colours was put together with the brown being the Earth itself, the green for life, the blue for air and water and the orange to be the sun and the stars shining down on it all. To compliment the colour scheme, the astrology symbols used for biodynamics was added as a frame and also to showcase the cyclical nature of the field. Considering the subject, there's no better symbol that grapes. The bunch was stylized with a gradient and drop shadow to create some sheen and to add depth and texture.
Unique icons created to reflect the various days of the Biodynamic Calendar. Fruit, Flower, Leaf and Root.
This is a new Biodynamic Calendar for the Android OS. On top of being a Bio Calendar, it is also a resource for information on Biodynamics as well as a finder for stores, restaurants and producers of organic, natural and biodynamic wines. This app will be used by members of the wine community from production, to sales to consumers and will create a key link between the calendar and the product itself. There is a quantified belief that depending on what day of the Bio Calendar it is, there is an effect on the flavour of wine. The Calendar is divided into the 4 days; fruit, flower, leaf and root. The app will flash what day it is upon opening, and from there you can research the day (i.e how long that day will be present for) and decide if it’s a good day to enjoy that special bottle. There will also be a link to like-minded business that can be sorted by type and distance from user.
In the marketplace right now, there are two Bio calendars. One for IOS, which is functional but costs money to see the whole year. You only get that day for free. On Android, the app there has been broken for years so basically as an Android user we don’t have a working Bio Calendar. With this app, launching on Android first, we will have a functional and fun Bio calendar that is free to use so the user can plan the whole year of tasting and buying. Revenue sources will come from the shop function where clients can pay to be listed and be profiled.
The UX/UI overview was meant to be clean and simple. Big icons, and very obvious. No fluff as well; there’s the calendar, resource and shop function (with map). For function itself, it opens on the calendar date, which will be connected to a database so when you open the app, the icon that comes up will be the current date via the bio dynamic calendar. That icon is clickable which will take you to a resource page that will have a drop down for other topic, but also give you the full year’s info for the calendar.
