The first step in creating the movie poster for ‘The Light Princess’ was to establish a theme to examine through the poster itself. For this, the ‘darker’ aspects of the story were chosen to showcase especially the part of the story dealing with the ‘spiteful and sour’ aunt who placed the spell on the girl. Elements of the dark forest where the Prince finds her swimming are central as well as water imagery. Once these elements were in place, the step was to add The Princess herself. She is depicted as a darkened shadow with the Aunt nefariously watching from the bottom right corner. Font was the final key in putting all the elements together and after searching for the perfect font that said ‘horror’, the font ‘I still know’ was chosen. Additional effect of a stroke, inner and outer glows and a bevel and emboss were done to add impact and depth to the font. The accompanying font is the ever classic ‘Trajan’ was used. On the tagline a drop shadow and warp was used for styling. The ‘Rex Weed’ review quote was placed at the bottom right to draw the eye towards the evil old lady and was done in the spooky ‘I still know’ font.
